BBC Radio Three ne Centre of History of Emotions ki Dr. Sarah Chaney se yeh jan'ne ke liye baat ki ke maazi ke chand jazbaat humein yeh samajhne mein kaise madad de sakte hain jo ke hum aaj mehsoos karte hain.
Asedia (mazeed jeene ki khwahish ka na rehna)
Yeh jazbaat aksar ruhani buhran se aate hain. Jo log is ka samna karte hain woh naumeedi, kahli aur sab se zyada mojooda zindagi ko chhodne ki ek zabardast khwahish mehsoos karte hain.
Dr. Chaney ka kehna hai ke 'aaj kal is ehsas ko depression ka naam diya ja sakta hai. Magar Asedia khaas tor par ruhani buhran aur khanqahon ki zindagi ke sath jura hua hai.'
Yeh mumkin hai ke Asedia se hone wali kahli o susti khanqahon ke mazhabi raahibon ke liye tashweesh ka sabab thi jis wajah se woh aise ravayye napasand karte thay.
Darhaqeeqat waqt guzarte ke sath Asedia ke jazbaat ko susti o kahli ke sath jor diya gaya jo Isaaiyat mein 'Saat baray gunahon' mein se ek hai.
Frenzy (zehni inteshaar)
'Agar koi frenzy ka shikar hai to woh bohot mushta'il ho ga. Usay gusse ke dore parenge. Woh apne ird gird cheezein phenkega aur bohot cheekhe chillayega.'
Agar mohtaat andaz mein baat ki jaye to frenzy ke jazbaat ke zair-e-asar khamosh baithna naamumkin hai.
Yeh jazbaat buniyadi tor par humare dor-e-jadeed ke andarooni jazbaat ki soch par roshni dalte hain, yani aap inko chhupa sakte hain agar aap kaafi koshish karein.
Magar qaron-e-wusta mein woh log jo frenzy ka shikar thay aisa nahi kar paate thay.
Dr. Chaney ka kehna hai ke 'woh zaban jo log apne jazbaat ke izhar ke liye istemal karte thay uska matlab tha ke unhon ne kuch aisa mehsoos kiya jo hum kabhi mehsoos nahi kar sakte.'
Melancholy (wahshat)
16vi sadi tak sehat ka talluq chaar jismani madon mein tawazun se samjha jata tha. In mein khoon, balgham, jigar mein banne wala bhoora maayia aur kala maayia shamil thay.
Melancholy tab hota hai jab insaan mein siyaah maayia bohot zyada ho jaye.
Dr. Chaney ka kehna hai ke 'kuch waqiaat mein log harkat karne se khaufzada hote hain, kyunke woh sochte hain ke woh sheeshe ke bane hue hain aur woh toot jayenge.'
France ke badshah Charles Hashthum ke baare mein mashhoor tha ke woh Melancholy ka shikar thay aur kisi mumkinah haadse mein toot kar bikharne se bachne ke liye apne libaas ke andar lohay ki silakhein silwate thay.
Nostalgia (maazi ki yaadein)
Dr. Chaney ka kehna hai ke 'hum apni guftagu mein Nostalgia lafz ka istemal aksar karte hain magar pehli baar jab iska istemal hua tha tab isko ek jismani bimari samjha jata tha.'
18vi sadi mein yeh bimari jahaz raano mein pai jane wali bimari samjhi jati thi jo unhein us waqt hoti jab woh ghar se door hote aur isko ghar ko yaad karne se joda jata.
18vi sadi ka Nostalgia aaj se mukhtalif tha. Us waqt iski kuch zahiri alamat thin.
Nostalgia ka shikar hone wale jahaz raan thakaawat, kahli aur dardon ka shikar hote thay aur kaam nahi kar pate thay. Intehai Nostalgia ki halat mein maut bhi waqe ho sakti thi.
Iska mawazna Nostalgia ki aaj ki tareef se nahi kiya jata. Ab yeh maazi ke bhale waqton ki yaad ke tor par samjha jata hai.
Shell Shock (dekhne aur sunne ki salahiyat kho dena)
Maazi mein Shell Shock bhi Melancholy aur Nostalgia ki tarah jazbati kefiyat aur bimari mein ek bareek lakeer kheenchti thi jiske baare mein baat ki jati aur iska ilaaj karwaya jata tha.
Dr. Chaney ka kehna hai ke 'jo afraad Shell Shock ka shikar hote unko ajeeb dore parte thay aur woh aksar dekhne aur sunne ki salahiyat kho dete. Halaanke zahiri tor par unke sath koi masla nahi hota. Jang ke aghaz mein unhone socha ke yeh dhmakay bohot qareeb hone ki wajah se dimagh ko pohanchne wale jhatke se ho raha hai magar baad mein yeh khayal kiya gaya ke yeh alamatain mareez ke tajurbaat aur unki jazbati halat ki wajah se ho rahi thin.'
Hypochondriasis (muraq)
Dr. Chaney ka kehna hai ke 'yeh buniyadi tor par is kefiyat ka mardana version hai jisko 17vi aur 18vi sadi mein doctors ne hysteria ka naam diya. Iske baare mein khayal kiya gaya ke yeh thakaawat, dard aur hazme ke masail paida karti hai.
Tahum, 17vi aur 18vi sadi mein khayal kiya gaya ke Hypochondriasis tili ke baais hoti hai lekin baad mein iski wajah asaab ko qarar diya gaya.'
18vi sadi mein khayal kiya jata tha ke jisam ke baare mein fikrmand hone ki alamatain Hypochondriasis ki wajah se hain. Tahum zahiri alamatain isko dimagh aur jazbaat ki bimari qarar deti thin.
Ikhlaqi Pagalpan (Moral Insanity)
Dr. Chaney ka kehna hai ke 'darasal iska matlab jazbati pagalpan hai.'
Kyunke bohot arsa tak 'Ikhlaqi' ke lafz ka matlab nafsiati aur jazbati tha aur aaj jis ko hum ikhlaqi kehte hain uske sath bhi istemal hota raha.
Dr. James ne jin mareezon ko 'ikhlaqi tor par pagal' samjha tha, unhone ghair mamooli tor par ya ghalat rawayya ikhtiyar kiya tha. Jabke unmein dimaghi sehat ki kharabi ki koi alamat nahi thi.
